This Scuffletown Park Engagement Session was the perfect homage to Aspen and Josh’s relationship as native Richmonders. Their first date was at Kuba Kuba, which quickly became one of their favorite spots. Afterwards, they went for a walk around a park near his home in Richmond. This park was indeed Scuffletown Park, which would later be the spot where Josh popped the question! Josh’s thoughtfulness was so apparent in every step of his proposal. After Aspen said yes, the couple went back to Josh’s parents’ house, where their friends and family were waiting to celebrate them. He even ordered catered Kuba Kuba!
Throughout their Scuffletown Park engagement session, you could feel Aspen and Josh’s love and excitement for the future. Josh is a double pastor’s son, and mentions how thoughtful and kind Aspen is. Aspen teaches elementary school, while Josh works with middle school and high school aged children.
Fun fact – Aspen actually met Josh’s parents before she met him! She was at a party where she met his parents, and they told him about her. Josh looked her up on Facebook and discovered they had a mutual friend, after reaching out to their mutual friend and getting her number, he asked her out.
After exploring a few areas around Scuffletown, we walked over to Scoop RVA for ice-cream. The store smelled so amazing I joined them for a scoop of ice-cream while I was there. The creme brulee ice-cream I had there was absolutely amazing – you’ve got to try it if you’re ever in Richmond!
For their formal outfit, we went over to a parking garage across the street from Aspen’s apartment. I know this probably sounds like a weird portrait session location, but the lighting on the rooftop was so gorgeous at sunset! The neutral background was perfect for showing off the monochrome formal attire they chose for their second outfit.
Throughout their session, Aspen and Josh wanted natural and joyful photos, which will be a theme we carry through their wedding day. The couple are thrilled for their wedding, and are most excited about spending time with family and friends. The wedding will be filled with romantic vibes, at a wedding tree with a reception in a beautiful greenhouse to follow. Aspen and Josh’s Richmond wedding will be filled with love and family with about 100 people in attendance.
