Summer engagement sessions call for golden hour beauty, which makes the Virginia State Capitol Building a perfect location for Richmond engagement sessions! Like Maymont, they feature one of the few gardens in the area that don’t require any photography permits. What’s great about this location though is that they are open well after golden hour. This made the location perfect for the warm, sunny look and feel Kaivalya and Push wanted for their elegant Richmond engagement session.
Kaivalya was a childhood friend of mine, which made capturing her engagement even more special. It’s so sweet seeing my friends find their partners! The couple told me they met through mutual friends. They’re attending Eastern Virginia Medical School and Virginia Commonwealth University Health, respectively. Although their med school journey meant a few years of long distance, they’re hoping to be co-located for their residency programs at Chapel Hill.
The couple’s elegant Richmond engagement session at the State Capitol Building was filled with laughter and fun. I love when my couples are able to just have fun together, even when they’re roasting each other (lovingly, of course).
The State Capitol is a public location in downtown Richmond. The property’s thoughtful landscaping gives us several different scenes to work with. Whether you’re looking to celebrate your Richmond roots or looking for similar vibrant colors to Maymont, the State Capitol Building is a great option for your engagement session.
While portions of the State Capitol Building were under construction, we made the best of it and explored some areas around the state capital that were open to the public. I love the breathtakingly tall trees and luscious greenery. The greenery is especially vibrant in the summer. One of my favorite spots was the purple flowers on the northwest side of the property. They were a beautiful addition to their elegant Richmond engagement session and helped Kaivalya and Push’s outfits really pop.
