The US Capitol Hill is as iconic as it goes for a Washington DC engagement session location. To avoid the crowds though, we scheduled a sunrise session. Haley and Brecken were seriously troopers for braving the cold that morning – temperatures were in the 30s and 40s. Even so, Haley insisted that they keep their coats off for almost the entire session. It was definitely worth it!

I have to give a huge thank you to Capitol Hill Police. They lead us up the stairs of the Capitol for a few photos. I don’t think that’s typically allowed! I think they admired our tenacity for braving the cold, plus we were the only ones there aside from some die hard DC joggers. I’d love to give a shoutout to the individual officer, but I’m leaving out his name just in case.

Here’s more on their story from Haley:

“My fiance and I were partners in our university’s Model United Nations class three years ago – that’s how we met and hit it off! We became best friends, and before we knew it, we were falling in love.

Flash forward to December 22, 2018, when Brecken surprised me in New York City – where I was with my family on a trip – and proposed to me in front of the United Nations, where we competed and fell in love, where our story began.

We love politics, and we both just recently moved out to DC to work. We hope to be living in DC or Virginia after we get married – hopefully where we will get law school acceptances! We have a passion for politics and making the world a better place, but more importantly, we are so grateful to have a partner through it all. We believe in each other & our goals to be better and do better. DC is the place to make that happen. Taking our engagement photos here would be so special – because it’s where we hope to start our lives together, and it’s a place full of opportunity for us to help each other to make an impact on the world.”
