Tanya and Andy’s Lexington backyard wedding was an emotional, intimate affair. I find myself saying this a lot, but I absolutely loved the way this couple made their wedding day their own!
Although Tanya and Andy live down in Virginia Beach, they also own a piece of land in Lexington. The location was perfect for them and their guests to enjoy a mountain backdrop for the whole day. With the help of Erin and her team at Rockfish Valley Events, that’s where they dreamed up their celebration from scratch. One of my favorite examples of this is their ceremony site – they kept the grass in that area long until the week before the wedding, when they carefully mowed a natural ceremony arch and perimeter for the ceremony space.
Although they kept their ceremony short and sweet, they each wrote personal vows that had everyone in laughter and tears. At their first kiss, guests all set off their confetti cannons! Tanya was so excited for her confetti vision to come to life, and it was such a fun way to end their ceremony!
Afterwards, the couple went out on a ‘first puppy walk’ with their dog Nymeria (a reference for my Game of Thrones fans out there). During their cocktail hour, everyone had fun mingling and playing cornhole before the portraits and reception. Being on their land meant we had all the portrait time and space we wanted. They skipped wedding traditions that weren’t their vibe, like first dance, first look, and cake cutting. Instead, they enjoyed a relaxing dinner together and ended the night with time around the bonfire and lighting sparklers.
